My Story

i'm a 4th generation jw.

i started to realize it wasn't the truth over 2 years ago in late october/early november 2014. i don't know how exactly it happened.

i remember i had just heard about confirmation bias, and it hit me: i realized that i would be guilty of confirmation bias if i didn't look at the other side.

Cyprus JW's Military Service

i work with a nurse who served for 2 years in the army of cyprus as is compulsory in that country.

i happened to ask about jw's and their consequential punishment for not doing it.

he laughed and stated that since 2009 they have to do it and that he personally knew several that 'served.

"If conscientious objector status is claimed due to religious or ideological reasons, the objector may serve either an alternative military or civil service, depending on the circumstances of each case." (Wikipedia)

Since Cyprus is legally bound to the European Union and its human rights conventions, it looks like this story is a fabrication/wishful thinking on someone's part.

this is the scenario there's a guy who is df and being shunned big time.

we'll he needs a place to stay since he can't stay with his family you know the shunning thing well another jw in good standing says he can stay with him .the df guy is delighted but a little problem the elders are going to find out the df guy car parked at jw house.

no one in the area knows he's df because it's 90 miles from the cong he was df in so i told him he's takeing a risk but he says i'm going to show love to this person no matter what..

It's a business arrangement between a landlord and his tenant - if anybody asks.

Further information is nobody's business - especially J.W's!

Truth only needs to be told to those deserving to hear it. :) (I can't remember who said that)

The "landlord" is a decent & loving human being.

It's interesting that regardless of the fact that every Bible translation (including the NWT) has translated the Greek word proskyneō as "worship" in various scriptures, Strong's Concordance describes it simply as obeisance, homage, or reverence - but not worship. The NWT has opted to use both interpretations.

i'm not leaving forever, i'm sure i'll pop in here and there but for the most part i haven't felt the need to check in here as often as i used to so i thought i'd say so long.

this journey we're all on (life) and trying to make sense of it all is a very personal one.
